We live in a digitalized world. Smart tourism destinations are configured as a scenario for the production of large volumes of data (Big Data), thanks to the intensive use of technology by tourism demand and also by the destination, thanks to technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT). In this context, the aim is to train data specialists who can develop processes for identifying, capturing, transforming, and analyzing/interpreting data in tourism.
RELATED ACTIONS: HACKATHONS IN TOURISM
The hackathons developed in Torrevieja since 2019 focus on the development of training innovation processes in tourism. To this end, new ideas, services, and/or applications are promoted to help solve problems in smart destinations, establish new communities, collaborations between public-private institutions and the third sector, etc. The use of technology is key to this. The 2022 edition of the Torrevieja hackathon will focus on the possibilities of open data to facilitate innovation processes that improve tourism governance processes, as well as the tourist experience and quality of life of citizens.
