The reinforcement of governance processes is the main axis of the smart destination model, where the true smartness of the destination resides and is situated at a strategic-relational management level. Tourism has experienced major changes which imply a necessary adaptation of how it is managed, who manages it, and what public policies are applied. In this context, destinations are dominated by a large number of actors with multiple types of interdependent relationships, roles, and interests. In destination governance, the interaction between stakeholders and participatory processes for problem-solving are of great importance.

PILOT PROJECT: THE DIGITAL TOURIST IN TORREVIEJA

During the summer of 2022, tourist demand survey processes will be carried out in different parts of the city. These processes arise thanks to a tourism innovation system formed by the University of Alicante, the Torrevieja City Council, and the local business community. This analysis of tourist demand is based on the need to know the new profile of the digital tourist and the degree of adaptation of the city to it. The results of this project will help to improve the tourist experience and the associated management processes.
